Origin

From Thorsten Felbingers pen (⇒Felbi.at) the concept arose which, so to speak, "A perfect match“To my research into things Baffle geometry, sloping chamfers & my measurements different Tweeter at Waveguide fits. He just lacked the means and possibilities to develop the passive crossover ... Win-win situations are so easily created :).

  1. The speaker I'll build soon, I'm absolutely convinced of the thing! However, the Baumappe Felbi without his construction report is hardly to use, because a beautiful appearance as the Cinetor is missing and you hardly recognize anything on the inner model, especially the Erkentniss is missing where which bracing comes from and how the thick front wall is built! Also the material thicknesses are missing. It would be nice if there will be a further improvement. Otherwise, I'm very impressed, even from the switch!

... not only my P / L winner, but also an LS that I would put in my living room immediately if I weren't already well equipped.
not so full in the face at the first moment, but very relaxed, laid back, without lacking in dynamics or details anything.
    sovereign easy.
    ...
the discoM comes pretty close to the egg-laying woolly milk-pig - even at an angle it hardly loses any of its balance. loud and quiet simply a round thing for every musical material.

    little yellow cab vs. disco-M:

LYC: slightly center-stressed, unfortunately also quaerkiger. slight bloodless. on the one hand plays more superficially, but at the same time the playback is a bit more distant.
disco-M: a bodily, slightly longer-term vote. in the middle of the present, nevertheless more pleasant than at the LYC.

All in all, these two LS are quite close to each other at low volume, * the distance is significantly smaller than expected * - the comparison of the previous compilation had suggested something different.
except when it gets louder ...

Optically, the madness sets the Disco-M above all a vocal range before the unparalleled seeks. It sounds real, realistic and the voices are very fresh and fruity. Of course, music only sounds radiant and crisp if the recording pretends so, so the highlights are more likely to be in the middle than the highs. The bass is crisp but not particularly deep and neutral loud.

  3. hello, would have to ask what price class with ner finished box are the disco m comparable? Find two new studio monitors and would like to build them myself to save costs. I'm not at all sure if they would be an improvement. Can't hear a sample anywhere. At the moment I have a pair of Adam f7 because there is simply a lack of resolution and there are other things I don't know / have heard ...

  4. Is there an impedance correction for Suzie Q and Disco M?
    Got a small room with a 23 watt push-pull KT88 triode amplifier

  6. Are there any plans to make this design available on lipperbau.info ?

This is your magnum opus and I would love to build one but my wood work skills are non-existent.

  7. It took a while but now I have finished this wonderful speaker. It was more or less a blind purchase, or rather a purchase without listening to it. The measurements and descriptions from the internet were enough for me to be brave enough to build my first work. A great experience but above all a very excellent speaker that I can fully recommend. Now I would like to tackle the next kit. However, it might not be that easy to find a significantly better speaker.

  8. In the plans the crossover is on the back of the cabinet. Can it be put on the bottom of the cabinet so the back is clear for binding posts?
    Thank You.

  9. Hi,
Can you tell me the required thickness of the baffle (in order to accommodate the chamfers)?
I have some Paperstone remnants and before I commit the $$ to purchase the plans, I would like to understand if I can utilize this material in the construction.
    Thanks

  10. I've had the Disco M at home for some time. Voices in particular sound extremely good! It's also worth investing a little in the switch. Btw. Even cheap MKPs can sound good. Eg Arcotronics…..
However, the values of the components should all remain the same. Also the resistance of the coils. Otherwise you will change the vote. The tweeter plays very, very well. It is not for nothing that it is also used a lot at Phonar and by Mr. Lommersum. I connected several capacitors in parallel at the crucial points on the crossover and used a precision resistor in front of the tweeter. Interior wiring made from silver-plated Mil-Spec Teflon cable. Partially twisted... Always use Troels Gravesen. As a connection, laboratory books. Costs 1 each and there isn't much better.

    Back to the sound:

Bad recordings “can” start to get annoying….
There is enough bass, especially when placed close to a wall. The speakers can also be sufficiently loud. This is really very good, especially for the size. But you notice when the box is at its end and then turn the control back. The space is really very good. Good recordings actually sound very good.
The speakers also like every genre. From Nirvana to Pink Floyd to Norah Jones...

Only fans of an English tuning might find the speakers sound too “bright”. Can be done by setting up the boxes, space and
but also adapt further measures. The speakers are tuned linearly.

I've heard a lot of comparisons, for example regularly in sound and sound. For the price and for a 2-way, the discos are excellent!

I have one suggestion for improvement. The tweeter in the waveguide would benefit from having its own chamber to shield it from the low-midrange. At higher volumes you can notice vibrations that are not transmitted from the housing to the waveguide but come from the 22W/4534G00.

    Greetings Bernhard
