Components

Wavecor WF152BD06

Klang & Ton 02 / 2013

In this as in all other respects, the new driver is perfect: even at 95 decibel the driver has almost no distortions, has almost no resonance up to almost 10 kilohertz and shows a perfectly balanced frequency response ... The processing is Waveor-typical excellent - they only have the best materials installed.

The DXT-MON carries the MON (for monitoring) rightly in the name. From bottom to top she does everything right. The stage is clear, real table and clearly in front of you and there is nothing that even bothers or somehow, because not listen. The resolution is a force!

I was particularly interested in Alex Heissmann's DXT-Mon, because this box was also a lot going on here in the forum. This is another good example of how loudspeakers that measure themselves very well also sound really good. A great kit with an amazing base in the bass for the amazingly compact dimensions ... In any case, a complete speaker that leaves nothing to be desired. I would stand in the room immediately.

The DXT Mon, who played really long last weekend, seems to have fallen.
    Also me, very much!
A super stage has built the small, clean bass.
When we switched the speakers so that the passive membranes have turned inwards, the structure in the bass is still increasing.
Especially the tweeter was great, that was quite a big movie.
Also, the DXT Mon has surprised me with much more momentum than I had dared.

DXT-Mon: Immediately again great cinema for me: Fabulous resolution, absolute naturalness, impulsive with dry bass ...

  2. Impressions from the “Taxi Race” on March 10.03.2018th, XNUMX in Vienna

Fortunately, the DXT-Mon was there because in my room all the other speakers again clearly put on the squares. The bass was heavier and rounder than the taxis (except LBC), the middle and high tone again gentler, brighter and more harmonious.
Especially in my heavily damped space, the taxis produce too few reflections due to the stronger bundling. The less concentrated DXT-Mon produces more pleasant midrange and high frequency reflections, making the speaker sound more silky and brilliant with the same neutral frequency response.
The DXT-Mon was already with me but then not recorded and therefore with very little bass. That was absolutely not the case this time.
Strengths: Everything. Great from the bottom up.
Weaknesses: If you want to hear very loud you have to worry about the small woofer and the PM. Distorting or screaming still doesn't do anything, but physics has limits on how loud the little one can play bass. "

For me the star of the evening. Large, well-staggered stage, extremely wide sweet spot. Very linearly tuned but enough bass and nice clean highs. Level can do that too. We later heard them against various taxi / disco and didn't have to hide in the water level or depth. If you support them with a suboofer, you no longer need another speaker. You can tell that here the TMT limitert (or the passive membrane) is most likely to be the best loudspeaker I have heard so far. They will soon replace my Little Princess ADW (which are also very great and if they were shelf speakers they should stay - but unfortunately too dangerous with a toddler).

  3. How about the 3-way extension of the DXT-MON?
That would be particularly interesting for me, since I'm currently building the middle-high-tone section.
A DXT-MON-EXT would be really great.

  4. Why is the sonogram less smooth on the DXT-MON-RLY, than the one for DXT-MON? When it's the same cut-out on the baffle and the same tweeter? X-over only moved 100hz.

    1. Hi there:
DXT-MON-RLY has slightly less steep chamfers and a simple crossover layout => One parallel notch less than DXT-MONs crossover.
Directional behavior> = 10kHz is very sensitive in terms of an exactly mounting of the tweeter in the baffle.

      Best regards

      1. Ahh ... I see now. They have slightly different width and height too. Still incredible that such small difference in cabinet and driver placement, can make one so much smoother.
Thank you for the quick reply.
        Regards

  5. Hi Alexander,

I have to get in touch again because I made a small change in my hi-fi chain. What does that mean? Now the DXT-MON has got new play partners.
First, a new amplifier. I got a young used Yamaha A-S2100 at a low price. On the other hand, a new DAC. Here I also use a used benchmark DAC2-D that is attached to the MacBook Pro via USB. This DAC delivers the signal to the Yamaha via an XLR connector. The benchmark DAC2 was also broken, power supply defective. I got an external power supply from the web and connected it to the benchmark. And it works!
And what's the point? In terms of sound, the whole thing is an absolute dream. The loudspeaker practically disappears from the listening room and the music sounds crystal clear in all its facets and the bass is nicely contoured and dry.
In contrast, my other parts (AOS Studio 24XL with DSP-ClassD-Amp) can pack!

  6. Hi Alexander,

since the 3rd way to the DXT-MON is in the pipeline:
In my humble opinion, the new WF275BD01 / 02 would be an ideal addition to this system. Is linear up to 400Hz and with regard to other parameters with a resonance frequency of 27Hz is ideal and the mechanical losses are extremely low, so ideally suitable for the WF152BD06.

  7. Hi Alexander,
I have a quick question about the usefulness of the passive membrane in a system with DBA (Double Bass Array).
I have a very small room for watching films and listening to music (12-13sqm).
Due to space fashions I built myself a DBA, ie. There is enough depth.
I assume that the passive membrane is primarily/exclusively intended to support low frequencies.
In the case of a DBA (or generally when using subwoofers), can you simply leave out the passive membrane, or does it still make sense to install it? DBA is currently separated at approx. 80-90Hz.
Would anything have to be adjusted to the switch for this?
Or would you even recommend a completely different speaker for my application?

    Thanks in advance and greetings,
    Martin
